At Pippa’s House Nursery, we believe in introducing our little ones to important cultural moments in a way they can understand and appreciate. This year, we marked Remembrance Sunday with a series of poppy-themed activities, teaching the children about kindness, remembrance, and honouring those who’ve helped to create the world we live in today.
Learning Through Poppy-Themed Crafts
The poppy is a powerful symbol of remembrance, and our nursery was filled with beautiful poppy-themed artwork created by our children. We started the week with a simple, hands-on craft: painting poppies. Each child got to create their own poppy flower using red, green, and black paints, as they learned the story of the poppy and what it symbolises. The children took pride in painting and crafting, creating lovely displays that filled our nursery walls.
We also made poppy collages using recycled paper and other materials, giving the children the chance to practice their fine motor skills as they glued, cut, and assembled their masterpieces. By the end of the week, our nursery had a wall of red poppies that not only looked beautiful but also served as a gentle reminder of the significance of Remembrance Day.
Learning About Kindness and Respect
At Pippa’s House, we value teaching kindness and empathy, and Remembrance Day was a chance to explore these themes. During circle time, we talked about what it means to help others and how we can show respect and kindness to everyone around us. Through simple stories and discussions, our staff helped the children understand how the people we remember on Remembrance Sunday made a difference.
Creating Lasting Memories
This Remembrance Sunday was a special time at Pippa’s House Nursery, bringing us together in reflection and teaching our children about the importance of kindness, honour, and remembrance. Through poppy-themed activities and thoughtful conversations, our nursery community celebrated Remembrance Sunday in a way that was meaningful for our little ones.
Thank you to our wonderful staff for guiding these activities with care and to our parents for supporting our efforts in creating a memorable and educational experience for the children. We look forward to continuing these traditions and making Remembrance Day a part of our nursery’s annual calendar.
